CRITICAL APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY: INQUIRING FOR THE PURPOSES OF SOCIAL JUSTICE
with Joan McArthur-Blair & Jeanie Cockell
Join Joan & Jeanie for a whirlwind dive into critical appreciative inquiry and how we can bring together appreciative inquiry, critical theory & social construction to create AI experiences that embody the big social issues of race, gender, class, power, privilege and difference. Critical appreciative inquiry seeks to create thinking and experiences that are for the purposes of uplifting us all within our incredible diversity. J & j first wrote about Critical Appreciative Inquiry in 2012 in their book AI in Higher Education; and in their 2018 book on Building Resilience with Appreciative Inquiry and have expanded their thinking further in the 2nd edition of AI in Higher Education, 2020.

WALKING IN TWO WORLDS: CO-CREATING AN APPRECIATIVE AND INCLUSIVE CULTURE
with Denise Kiona Henning, Ph.D. (Cherokee Ani yun wiya/Choctaw)
As a Cherokee and Choctaw woman, my entire lifetime, I carry the responsibility for reminding Indigenous people who they are and where they come from, their values, and their strengths. Bringing a Native worldview along with an appreciative framework reinforces that we are here for a purpose.  Through self-discovery in my appreciative journey, I have realized that I have been reframing my thoughts and experiences since childhood. Exploring my traditional upbringing through an appreciative lens, has allowed me to influence other marginalized people to know their strengths and lean into them. The reality at this time in our history in race, equity & inclusion, we need to believe that we can have a positive and sustainable future in the United States when so many messages clearly want to keep us invisible.  Our world needs hope, we need healing and to co-create an appreciative climate. I bring to this TAD Talk, the utilization of AI and Appreciative leadership approaches to encourage all underrepresented peoples to remake this country/my country.  Utilizing an Appreciative inquiry framework is a life journey.

PSYCHO-SPIRITUAL ROOTS OF TRANSFORMING DEEP FEAR INTO DEEP PEACE: VOICES AND IMAGES FROM AFRICA AND ISRAEL- PALESTINE
with Dr. Colleen Mac Dougall
Presenting AI, Phenomenological-Hermeneutic research culminating from deep immersion in Israel-Palestine asking the question: What are the psycho-spiritual roots of deep fear and how are they transformed into deep peace?
I will note the main and appreciative themes rising from this research and the resilience of the Holy Land Peoples have deepened my own vocation as a Peace Psychologist.

RESISTANCE TO AND RESILIENCE FROM DIVERSITY
with Xi (Rita) Wang
Inquiring into psychological experience in a diverse workplace, I am going to talk about what surface-level diversity and deep-level diversity mean, why/how/when they matter, challenges we have when embracing diversity, etc., from a psychological perspective. Trying to shed some light on such topics, I hope it can inspire more thinking about how to overcome the challenges and to improve our resilience resulting from true diversity. Thank you!

TAD Talks: Peer-to-Peer Sharing and Dialogue
USING AI IN EMOTIONALLY DIFFICULT TIMES
with Jackie Kelm
Are you or someone you know enraged by social injustice? Do you work with people who are dealing with intense negative emotion? In this TAD talk we’ll explore how to use AI in emotionally intense moments where it’s not helpful to ask “classic” AI questions, and explore alternative ways to use AI to help move a person forward and build resilience in times of difficulty.

LEADING THROUGH TIMES OF HIGH CHANGE: CHANGE MANAGEMENT AND THE FOUR TRUSTS
with Andrew Davis
The Four Trusts model of change management was presented in a 2010 issue of Research in Organizational Change and Development. Co-authored by James Ludema (Director, Center for Values-Driven Leadership at Benedictine Univ.), this model notably moves beyond the "resistance" model of change and present a more modern, nuanced and positive view of people's reaction to change in organizations. One of the benefits of this model is that it is simple to explain, easy to understand and practical to apply.

In this talk, I'd like to quickly present the model and talk through how I am using the model diagnose my organization's response to a major change initiative. The model allows us to analyze employee questions through the lens of the four trusts and respond with more of the information the organization needs to successfully move through the change.

TELL ME MORE: HOW THE POWER OF OUR WORDS, LANGUAGE AND INQUIRY CAN BE A GAME-CHANGER AMIDST THE INSTABILITY WE HAVE BEEN FACING
with Sajel Bellon
If you had the Power of 3 Words and Curiosity that could save a life, would you have the courage to say them? Explore how the power of our words, language and inquiry can be a game-changer in amidst the instability we have been facing. Many have found themselves suffering in silence and many uncomfortable around conversations about mental health issues and suicide. The courage to ask a simple question or 3 words could mean the difference in a person's world. So why not use the power of our words to create connection and start conversation. It could be the difference between life and death for someone you know.

BRINGING FRESH A.I.R. INTO OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH LIBRARIANS DURING COVID-19
with Michelle Bradley and Mo McKenna
Michelle Bradley of the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) , and Mo McKenna of Return on Energy will discuss how they increased engagement with librarians using the AIR framework for weekly virtual conversations. Our conversations energized and supported hundreds of library workers at the height of the COVID-19 Crisis.

The AIR framework was a powerful and effective way to engage in conversation around complex issues that brought fresh air and hope to the participants, and inspired them to take small actions at their own libraries. During our presentation we will reveal the AIR framework.

TRANSFORMING MEDICAL TRAINING USING APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY
with Archana Mishra MD, MS, FCCP, FACP & Kim Marie McKernan MBA, MS
Burnout among physicians, residents and medical students is a real, prevalent and consequential issue, that is important to the world of medicine. From emotional exhaustion to depersonalization to a sense of low personal accomplishment, it can lead to serious consequences including increased rates of medical errors, lower quality patient care and depression. At this critical time, we need to address this problem urgently as a community.  At the AI Jam, we will share how we are using Appreciate Inquiry (AI) to achieve tangible successes transforming medical training to benefit student and faculty.

CONNECTION BEFORE CONTENT: THE POWER OF AI FOR MULTI-CULTURAL PLANNING
with Barbara Lewis and Amanda Trosten-Bloom
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) has a respected long-standing reputation in and beyond the Denver metro area; but its many offerings have appealed to and engaged white visitors more often than people color.  Recognizing the “disconnect” between their customer base and the larger community, DMNS leaders determined to shift the Museum’s culture and invite those "on the outside" to be co-creators of the Institution’s future.  The year-long Appreciative Inquiry process they used was dubbed The Community Collaboration Project, Imagining Tomorrow’s Museum.  In this 10-minute TAD talk we’ll explore key decisions and activities that resulted in an inclusively-created multi-cultural vision that forged long-term partnerships with communities of color and more culturally sensitive ways of designing and working within the institution.
